Dwarf Lake Iris

This trippy little creature is the Dwarf Lake Iris (Fig.1 and Fig.2) and it is rather lovely. The Dwarf Lake Iris is Michigan's State wildflower and is also under the list of state and federally threatened species. This species can only be found on the coastlines of northern Lake Michigan and eastern Lake Huron which might account for its vulnerability. These pictures were taken at Wilderness State Park in Emmet County, MI and can often be found in rather large clusters. The Dwarf Lake Iris is just as it's name suggest...a dwarf; it is between 6-8 inches tall and has super cute flowers that are about 1.5-2 inches wide.
