The average lifespan of the Canadian goose is 10-25 years in the wild. One
captive pair is known to have
been together for 42 years but when the male was accidentally
killed, the female
died a few months later

Factors that could contribute to
a shorter life span are:
•
Predation
•
Hunting
•
Illness
•
USDA population control

Trumpeter Swans have been known to live 29 years
in the wild, whereas a swan raised in captivity survived for 32 1/2 years. In
the wild, however, typical survival age ranges from 15-25 years.
•
Trumpeter swans can fly between 40-80 miles per
hour.
•
It is regarded as the largest of all native
North American wildfowl. Male mute swans can actually get larger at times, but
the mute swan is not native to North America.
